Travertine Pavers Driveway
Installing travertine pavers on your driveway is the same process as any other paver. Travertine Pavers are strong so they can be much thinner than most pavers and yet more durable. Travertine Paver driveways can be drivethrough driveways or they can have an exit and entry point. The contractor will often use a laser level to mark out your driveway before the project starts. He/she can set up the driveway with the appropriate slope (slope is for water to allow water to move off the driveway). A usual slope for a driveway is around 2". This is a more extreme slope than the slope that is made on a backyard pool deck. You will want the slope to move toward the street and away from the house to avoid water from rain in your basement. The installer will lay out the stakes. It is not unusual to find out that the ground already slopes down away from the house so a natural slope may already be in place. The digging for the driveway can usually be done in just a day or two by a person or two. A typical dig for a driveway will be much deeper than a dig for a pool or patio decking. In fact, the dig can be as deep as 9 to 11 inches. I have found that different contractors can vary widely in how deep they will dig for the driveway. There are a few factors that will impact how deep they will dig. Some of it is personal preference but contractors take into consideration issues such as the ground itself and how stable it is on the surface and the general ground in the specific region. The roots of nearby trees will also factor in to the equation. Even a dead tree can sometimes have a rotted section leaving a sinkhole in the ground. The last thing you want is a dip or low spot to sinking from a dead tree that is considered to be no longer threat. So the preparation of the surface can actually be more time consuming than the actual laying of the travertine pavers. Once the ground is prepared, the contractor will then lay the stone gravel and the sand. He/she will use some sort of a compactor to push the gravel and the sand down. The compactor can weigh up to a few hundred pounds. After the sand has been laid, you are then safe to begin to lay the travertine pavers.
