How Cool Can Travertine Pavers Be?
Travertine Pavers keep a cool surface.
Travertine Pavers are cool. By cool, I do not mean popular (although they are popular too). Travertine Pavers stay much cooler than the typical surface because they are light in color. Have you ever stepped on a dark flagstone in the middle of the Summer? Ouch. They are so hot. You don't want to burn the little feet of your children do you? Lets face it, you don't want your big feet to burn either. A light surface is ideal for the patio or pool because we all want to take off our shoes and walk around during the Summer. Contact us today for your pricing and your pool/patio is just a short time away.
How Strong Are Travertine Pavers?
Travertine pavers are strong.
How strong are travertine pavers? Ask a Roman. They still exist in Italy a few thousand years later. Why did they last so long? They are a super durable natural stone. Travertine pavers are 2-3 times stronger than concrete. In fact, you can drive a large truck on them. You can put them in your driveway and drive your cars over them. It is hard to imagine that the concrete in your garage will begin to crack before the travertine pavers do. But they are powerful. They have the highest compression strength of any paver at over 17,000 PSI. This is why they are the most widely used natural stone in modern architecture. They are actually pretty thin at an inch and a quarter. But their strength allows them to be thinner and yet pass the competition in strength.
Why Should I Use Travertine Pavers?
Travertine pavers are beautiful and durable.
One of the main reasons you should pick travertine pavers for your patio is the cost issue. Travertine pavers have become more affordable in the last few years allowing them to be competitive with other pavers and yet retaining their high end qualities. When calculating the cost of travertine pavers, a person needs to take into account the fact that travertine pavers last longer and therefore need less upkeep. Compare travertine pavers to concrete. A concrete slab will have cracking and splitting in a very short time. The spacing between travertine pavers allow for far less cracking than you see on a typical concrete slab. The travertine pavers can be easily replaced in a way that a concrete slab can not be replaced. You want to take the longtime durability in to account when deciding on a product. I learned this the hard way the first time I ever purchased an "economy car." The car did not feel like an economy car when I had to replace the air conditioning after two years. Travertine pavers have a built in value that will more than make up in the long term.
As I mentioned, the travertine pavers are easy to replace. You can simply pull the old pavers out and replace as needed. Any material has a potential for damage. But pulling up one or two pavers is different than replacing the slab.
Travertine pavers are just more attractive than concrete, or asphalt. You will have a patio, driveway or walkway that you can be proud of and show to your friends. In fact, you will not even need to mention it. They will see the travertine pavers and tell you how appealing they are. We have a patio here at our warehouse that is made in travertine pavers. It shows what a patio pool decking would look like. I always enjoy the "wow" moment of when someone walks out on the deck for the first time. I especially like that moment if they have never looked at a travertine pavers. If the person has been looking at brick, concrete or another less visually appealing paver, they usually make their decision instantly.
Another advantage is that the travertine pavers are low maintenance. A simple sealing with a high quality sealer takes care of the patio surface. The surface will look better in ten years than it did the day it was installed. So there is just very little upkeep. The strength will allow you to drive a truck over the surface without damage. The strength and durability allows you the freedom to not worry about the maintenance.
You will also want to take into consideration the easy installation and the flexibility of the travertine pavers. You do not even need a professional installer to install the pavers. The travertine pavers are heavy and that is the main reason why you might want to consider a professional. You will feel it in your back when installing the pavers. But the install itself is easy to understand as a concept. Plus you have the flexibility to create whatever pattern you desire. There are hundreds if not thousands of combinations available. So the potential is endless.

Why are Travertine Pavers a Better Option than Concrete Slabs?
Travertine Pavers are more durable.
Travertine pavers can endure tough conditions for a few reasons. To begin with, travertine pavers are just stronger. But in addition, there is a reason that travertine pavers last longer than a concrete slab. A concrete slab lacks flexibility. Travertine pavers are put on sand and so the travertine pavers can adjust as the ground adjusts. A concrete slab is not able to make the same adjustments and therefore it cracks with changing weather conditions. Travertine pavers are easy to replace and match the existing decking. If you replace part of a concrete deck, you will never match the existing color. So it will be obvious that you had to repair the deck. Travertine pavers, on the other hand, will allow for a more uniformed look.

Travertine Pavers
"I bought my travertine pavers as more of a protective choice. I wanted something that would last longer than my slate lasted. Huge win. I took every step as directed by my interior designer (even when she was ridiculous) and I received excellent customer service on my travertine pavers. I called my local TV station and told them they should get the word out about the durability of travertine pavers." Tayna - Houston
"We are so pleased that my fiance and I were able to afford the travertine pavers. We both work hard day in and day out working crazy hours and we just want to come home and relax next to the pool. The travertine pavers an excellent pick. We work so hard for our money that we wanted to enjoy the experience of seeing the return. I was concerned initially about the potential for stains on a natural stone but we never saw the stains. This was tested the first time I spilled coffee on the deck. I didn't even clean it up until the next day. I was relieved that I sealed the deck though." Belinda - Houston
"We were doing an outdoor deck with a patio cover and we were a little confused when someone mentioned travertine pavers. We had used travertine tile in the past inside our home but I thought travertine would be too slick for the outdoors and rain. But I came to understand that the holes in the travertine pavers are what stop the surface from getting slippery when wet." I have recommended travertine pavers to all of my friends. It feels like half our street has them now." Patti - Houston
"I needed double bullnose travertine pool coping and I didn't realize how hard it was to get them. I used the suggestion of using a travertine paver 16x24 and just fabricating it so it would function as a double bullnose. It worked!!!!" Mahur - Houston
"I first found out about travertine pavers online. I noticed that the buzz surrounding travertine pavers was consistently positive. A pool builder told me that he used travertine pavers because less people called him back for fixes later. That was pretty convincing. The more I researched, the better I felt about the decision. The sales people were so helpful and they walked me right through the process. I never thought I would purchase $10,000 worth of travertine pavers online by just looking at two small samples but it really looked better than I expected." Jim - Houston
"We tried so hard to keep our flagstone but it just kept flaking apart. We turned to travertine pavers after a friend purchased them for her backyard kitchen and decking. We were so impressed with the old world look of the travertine pavers. We walked across travertine pavers when we visited Italy a few years back and her backyard recreated that look and feel. To be honest, our backyard looked like crap. We had low expectations that we could repeat the look and yet sure enough, we were so satisfied with our travertine pavers. I would suggest to anyone that they jump right on travertine pavers and get them for their own backyard fix up. Kimberly - Houston
"From the moment you step on travertine pavers, you will be hooked. I walked across travertine pavers the first time in the rain. I was shocked that they were so nonslippery. I asked about it and my neighbor told me that the fact that the travertine pavers do not get slippery when wet was the big selling point for her." Nancy - Houston
"I consider myself a loyal customer. But when a vendor suggested I use flagstone again, I knew I could not trust him. I hated the flagstone. It is a dirty and ugly stone. I really thought travertine pavers were too expensive but they only costed about $1.00 more a square foot. So our whole deck cost an extra $1000 to put in but it was so worth it. I would never go back to flagstone. Thanks for my travertine pavers." Clarence - Houston
"I looked out my back window one day and I was sad with what I saw. I had grass that could not stay green in the Texas heat no matter what I tried. I wanted something different. I turned to travertine pavers as an option to change up my lawn. Boy, did it ever work. My grass had so many sink holes that I thought that the travertine pavers would just sink through the ground with time. My installer told me that he would compact the sand and fill the sink holes with sand before installing the travertine pavers. We now have our outdoor area back. I am proud to have friends over and entertain because we can use the patio deck. Every single time I have a gathering at my house someone comments on how beautiful the travertine pavers look. Thanks for everything." Timmi - Houston
